There are 3 main elements to consider when dressing for the season. First, you'll want to consider a STYLE or cut that is 'season appropriate' for the warmer months. Think light, loose, and flowy. Next, FABRIC. Summer fabrics are breathable & stretchy. Third, add summer ACCESSORIES. Nothing says summer like sunglasses, a sun hat, straw bag, and sandals. This is my favorite part - I’m all about adding fun & interesting accessories. This is the creative part that really lets our individuality shine. Accessories are the finishing touches to our outfits. So let's get to it; first up is Style...
Unlike the heavy and dense clothing styles of fall & winter, summer styles are light, loose, and airy. Something to consider when incorporating brown into your warmer-month outfits, is to choose style pieces that are suitable for the season. Instead of a heavy cable-knit sweater, think 'light kimono' - like the ones shown below. The handkerchief hems & draping silhouette are light & airy - perfect for that easy breezy summer vibe.
The same holds true for tops & dresses. Opt for a flowy, less-fitted style to keep you cooler and more comfortable in those warmer months. You'll want the fabric to glide over your figure rather than hug your curves. This lets air flow freely keeping us cool as temperatures rise.
In addition to the style or cut you are wearing, fabric is equally as important. In the colder months, we tend to choose heavier, more dense garments to keep us warm - like cable knit sweaters. We gravitate toward wool, tweed, and tight knits. Summer fabrics are quite the opposite. Summer fabrics tend to be light, breathable, and/or stretchy.
Another great option for Summer is the Sheer Striped Sleeve Tee. It boasts alternating sheer stripes on the sleeves - a unique style feature we love especially for summertime. We are equally as excited about the the fabric of this top as well. It has a super soft and stretchy fabric blend which is exactly what we are looking for in our summer top picks.
One final step in bringing brown into your warm-weather style is accessorizing your look for summer. This is the fun part. Add accessories that have that summer vibe like sunglasses or a sun hat, for example.
Trade your winter accessories for summer options. Swap out winter boots for sandals. Natural stones and beads are great elements for summer jewelry. Also look to include unique pieces like blown glass and carved wood statement pieces. These are especially useful when incorporating varying shades of brown into your summer look. As mentioned earlier, brown comes in a variety of shades from very light to dark. Matching up those shades can be challenging. The use of accessories with varying shades of brown can be just what you need to pull your whole look together.

Handbags and purses vary from season to season. Winter bags tend to be heavier and made from leather or leather alternatives. On the contrary, summer bags are lighter and made from a variety of materials like straw, canvas, cotton, lace, and neoprene. Have some fun and trade in your winter bag for a few different options to mix & match with your new summer outfits. You may want to consider both a light and dark brown option. Some of our favorites this season are the Crochet Lace Shoulder Tote Bag, Meribella Neoprene Tote Set, Circle The Globe Bamboo Handle Bag, By the Sea Tote & Zipper Wallet Set.
Summer is sandal season. We recommend picking up a pair of brown sandals to coordinate with your new brown outfits this season. We have some really great options including flats, wedges, slides, ankle-strap, and more. Here are a few of our favorites:
